Campus Writing Retreats
Day-long Writing Retreats for your Campus or Conference

**Now Online**

"Time is not enough."
-Macleod et al 2011

Scholars need more than a place to write. They also need strategies for managing their internal writing barriers—the thoughts and feelings that undermine their productivity. This is especially the case now, as the crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19 is depriving scholars of the social and emotional resources they need to stay engaged in their scholarship.

InkWell's Campus Writing Retreats give scholars new insights and research-based skills that dramatically boost their writing motivation and productivity. They offer the same in-depth training as in-person retreats, but are designed to minimize screen fatigue, foster engagement, and strengthen the sense of community on your campus—both within and across disciplines. They work for funding associations, colleges, universities, institutes, professional associations, and conference organizers who want to:
  • offer capacity-building writing support instead of just time and space to write
  • build intellectual and social community--within or across disciplines
  • increase engagement among disaffected or discouraged scholars
  • increase the effectiveness of existing campus support programs
  • support the matriculation, recruitment, and retention of underrepresented graduate students and faculty
"Thanks to your guidance I submitted a research paper to one of my discipline's major conferences on April 1 - something I haven't done in years. It felt great."

Tim Bajkiewicz, PhD  |  Assoc. Professor, Broadcast Journalism  |  Virginia Commonwealth University

Retreat Topics

Unstuck: How to Uncover and Move Past Your Writing Fears
Scholars who are stuck in their writing often wrestle with internal barriers that are disruptive, nebulous, and impervious to accountability strategies. This retreat teaches a simple technique for surfacing the thoughts and feelings that keep scholars from writing. By the end of the retreat, each participant will have identified the barriers that disrupt their writing and uncovered unique solutions for overcoming those barriers.
Ready, Set, Flow: Overcoming Overwhelm to Make the Most of Your Writing Time
Do your faculty and graduate students feel overwhelmed or paralyzed when they try to sit down to write? If so, this retreat will teach them how to quickly clarify what needs to be done and enjoy a strong sense of satisfaction when they’re finished. By the end of the retreat, they’ll have made meaningful, measurable progress on their manuscript. And they’ll be able to quickly decide what to focus on every time they sit down to write.
"Inviting Dr. Michelle Boyd to campus to work with our faculty was a wonderful choice. We had a good response from all parts of our campus and everyone came away feeling empowered and productive. I highly recommend!"

Kate Bullard, PhD  |  Office of Research and Graduate Studies  |  Lehigh University
